Electric City BJJ
About Us
Owner Jason Althiser first started his martial arts journey in 2012. After just one year of training, he was already beginning to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. With a decade of instruction under his belt, Jason opened the doors to Electric City BJJ in June 2023 with a goal to give back and help the local community. Jason has taken many strides to improve the community, through efforts like fundraisers or simply improving the lifestyles of his students. As he navigates the early years of owning a Jiu Jitsu academy, he is continuously inspired by the Electric City BJJ family and the growth of his students. Find out what we are all about here!

Owner/Instructor
Jason Althiser
Jason Althiser is a seasoned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner and instructor, renowned for his expertise and dedication to the art. As the founder and head instructor of Electric City Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (ECBJJ), he has cultivated a thriving community of practitioners dedicated to the principles of discipline, respect, and continuous improvement.
After his parents passed, Jason was drawn to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He found support from the community and continues to cultivate the familial environment that drew him in. He has since trained with world-class instructors in the BJJ community, honing his skills and enhancing his understanding of the art. Some of the instructors he has trained with include John Danaher (DDS), Gordon Ryan (DDS), Jason Rau (Vanguard BJJ) etc.
Jason founded ECBJJ to create a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals of all ages and all skill levels. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge and empowering others, for both competition and self-defense, as well as giving back to the community. The ECBJJ Academy is flourishing into a hub for learning, camaraderie, and personal growth.
In Japanese, Jiu-jitsu means “Gentle art.” Jason’s teaching philosophy encompasses the tradition of gentle-art as he emphasizes skillful technique over brute force. He believes jiu-jitsu to be a transformative journey that not only helps with physical fitness, but instills confidence, resilience, and self-awareness in practitioners. Jason encourages his students to be confident in themselves, overcome challenges, and strive for excellence both on-and-off the mat.
Jason remains deeply involved in the BJJ community. He regularly competes, attends seminars, and hosts seminars at ECBJJ. He strives to improve his skills as both an instructor and practitioner, constantly seeking new opportunities for growth and learning. Jasons took 2nd place at IBJJF World Championships.

FAQS
What Our Students Are Saying About Us?
Jason is an experienced instructor who is teaching me the fundamentals of Jiu Jitsu. As a beginner, I have felt out of my comfort zone in almost every class, but I always trust our instructors because they care about the safety of the students, which allows me to progress. Electric City offers a wide variety of hours for kids, beginners, and experienced students. Come check it out.
I have trained at three local BJJ gyms in the capital region and this gym is easily my favorite for a multitude of reasons. First, the facility is brand new and not only has men/women's bathrooms, but a shower as well. The mats are beautiful and spacious, allowing for more space to roll than you could ask for. The instructor is extremely skilled, creative, and dedicated to his craft and teaches a perfect blend of Gracie BJJ while incorporating the newest technique in Jiu-Jitsu. Most importantly, the instructor is a phenomenal person whom I have known for a while now. He is nice, caring, honest, and will make you feel comfortable as you venture out into your new journey. I’ve been training at Electric City for almost a month now and it’s been a great experience. There is more than enough class times to meet the needs of everyone, beginners classes that drill fundamentals and advanced classes with great instruction and great rolls. The head coach and owner has a wealth of knowledge and experience. The facility is not only clean, but the facility is huge and one of the few local gyms that not only have bathrooms but full on showers. Overall, I highly recommend it.
